Kirk W Bonsal

Kirk W. Bonsal is a dedicated public servant with over 38 years in law enforcement. He is a retired detective sergeant and has served as both a police chief and currently as Chief Deputy, overseeing a department of more than 200 peace officers in the Houston metropolitan area. Kirk spent eight years as an investigator—later promoted to lieutenant—at the third-largest District Attorney’s Office in the U.S., working in the Civil Rights Investigative Unit.

He holds a master’s degree in Criminal Justice and is a proud graduate of the FBI National Academy (Session 270). A U.S. Coast Guard veteran, Kirk is also a certified Force Analyst and serves as an expert witness and use-of-force consultant. He has led hundreds of critical incident investigations, taught investigative and criminal justice courses at the college level, and trained law enforcement professionals nationwide.

Kirk has been married for 41 years and is a proud father of four adult children. His lifelong commitment to justice, education, and leadership is reflected in his extensive career and ongoing dedication to public safety.
